Laughlin included in Aussie ODI team

Siddle, Hilfenhaus rested

Warner in T20 squad

MELBOURNE: Pacemen Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus will be rested after the Test series in South Africa, with Australia drafting in Queensland quick Ben Laughlin for the upcoming one-day and Twenty20 Internationals against the South Africans.

Siddle and Hilfenhaus were bothered by niggling injuries while helping Australia to a winning 2-0 lead in the three-Test series in South Africa and will be given a break after the third Test.

Laughlin, 26, who collected 23 wickets at 14.86 in the domestic limited-overs competition, will join bowling spearhead Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Bracken, Brett Geeves and Shane Harwood in the pace ranks for the latter half of the tour, which involves five one-dayers and two Twenty20 matches.

Laughlin’s father, Trevor, played three Tests for Australia in the 1970s.

“Ben has had an extremely good summer for Queensland and was instrumental in their one-day final victory,” chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said in a statement on Thursday.

“Ben will add to the versatility of the Australian bowling line-up as we continue to look at options progressing forward to the 2011 World Cup.”

David Warner, the 22-year-old opening batsmen who burst into international cricket with 89 from 43 balls in his debut against South Africa in a Twenty20 International in January, and Harwood were included in the Australia squad for the Twenty20 Internationals, starting with the March 27 game in Johannesburg.
