Airport terminal to be ready by August

P.Oppili

CHENNAI: A new integrated terminal building is coming up at the Madurai airport, and it will be ready by August.

An official of the Airports Authority of India said it would cost Rs. 130 crore. The building could handle 250 passengers in the arrival area during the peak hour, and an equal number of passengers in the departure area. The existing terminal could handle only 100 passengers.

The airport would also have adequate space for car parking; a total of 425 cars could be parked there. The building would feature centralised air-conditioning, energy-efficient lighting and building management systems. There would be a high ceiling concourse with steel frame and profile sheet roofing, he said.

The work on the building began in November 2007.

The length of the runway at the airport is 7,500 feet, with an apron measuring 115 x 261 metres. At present, five aircraft could be parked at the airport.
