Joining hands against climate change

WWF-India has launched an official website for its upcoming campaign, “Earth Hour-2009”, aimed at promoting public awareness about global warming and climate change in India.

Hewlett-Packard on Thursday announced its partnership with the WWF-India as the “Green Technology Partner” for Earth Hour. The drive is aimed at creating greater community awareness and action around behaviour affecting climate change, enc ouraging individuals and organisations to make a difference in the fight against global warming.

The Earth Hour will be observed on March 28 in cities around the world including Delhi and Mumbai India.

“During Earth Hour, millions of individuals and businesses are expected to turn off their lights for one hour, demonstrating that by working together we can all make a difference in the fight against climate change,” said a WWF release.

Ravi Singh of WWF India said: “Earth Hour is a unique initiative with which we hope to raise awareness and encourage people to make energy reduction a priority. Collaboration is essential in this regard. We are confident that our partnership with Hewlett-Packard will help us make a powerful impact in educating others about climate change and energy efficiency.”

Hewlett-Packard India Country Communication Manager Bina Raj Debur has also expressed his pleasure over the initiative.

Both WWF and Hewlett-Packard have also welcomed individuals and businesses to join them in tackling climate change. Some of the other partners in this campaign include Wipro, HSBC Bank, Google, Intel, Nokia, YES Bank, Ogilvy, Tata Indicom, ITC Welcome Group, Standard Chartered, CBRE, Delhi Government, Tetra Pak and PVR Cinemas. Individuals are also encouraged to sign up to participate in Earth Hour at www.earthhour.in .
