Police from three States hold meet

BHADRACHALAM: Police officials from Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Orissa held a crucial border meeting in this temple town on Thursday on intelligence for the elections. Some 20 police stations in Maoist affected areas along the inter-State borders were represented at the meeting.

The kind of quick response that could be expected from the police stations all along the inter-State borders of the three States in the event of an emergency on any given day or particularly on the election day was the key issue that came up for discussion.

Area domination

They also discussed movement of forces in the Maoist stronghold pockets, security at the polling stations, threat posed by the dalams active in the Agency areas. The police officials dealt with area domination exercises and preventive measures to be initiated to ensure free and fair polls.

Nodal officer

OSD Operations Shanwaz Quasim would act as the nodal officer monitoring the intelligence sharing in the border areas - particularly in Venkatapuram, Wajeedu, Charla, Dummugudem, Edugurallapalli, Chintoor, Mothugudem areas in Khammam, Motu police station limits in Orissa, Kunta, Marigudem, Gollapalli, Kistaram , Bejji and Injaram areas in Chhattisgarh. Information pertaining to the village-level sanghams actively working in different forest villages and the activities of the area committees of the CPI Maoists would be made available to the police in the three affected States.

Control room

A control room would be set up in Bhadrachalam for coordination among the police officials of the three States.
