Foreign currencies in collection boxes
CHENNAI: Cheques for Rs.11,000, currencies of foreign countries, two golden rings and a watch were deposited in collection boxes kept at the venues of the fast organised by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Monday all over the State.
The cheques and currencies would be encashed through banks and their proceeds contributed to the fund for Sri Lankan Tamils. The valuables would be exchanged for money in shops. Overall, a demand draft would be taken and submitted to the Tamils through the International Red Cross Society, according to a release issued on Thursday by the party. The boxes were opened in the presence of bank officials on Wednesday. — Special Correspondent
