Tirupur: The government elementary school teachers affiliated to Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers’ Federation (TNESTF) staged a demonstration here on Thursday in protest against the “slothful” attitude shown by authorities concerned to address some of their grievances pertaining to wages.
They said that the entire 1,328 teachers working in the 174 government elementary schools situated within the Tirupur panchayat union and city limits were yet to receive their February wages.
Similarly, about 500 newly appointed teachers in the region, who had assumed duties in December last, were not paid. The educators demanded immediate disbursal of their dearness allowance arrears and revised pay scale as suggested by the sixth pay commission. The agitators said that despite repeated representations to the authorities concerned, about 35 head teachers working in various government elementary schools in the city and panchayat union limits were not given pay increments normally attached to their ranks once they got promoted.
R Arumugam, patron, TNESTF, led the agitation.
