Education department staff held

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The District Crime Branch on Thursday arrested two staff of the Education Department in connection with embezzlement of money from treasury to the tune of Rs. 10.30 lakh.
The police said that two office assistants were arrested. The duo along with an Assistant Elementary Education Officer (AEEO), an Additional AEEO and a Junior Assistant had reportedly siphoned off money by including fictitious names in the salary details issued from the Department to the treasury.
The salary, deposited in the bank accounts of the fictitious names through electronic clearance system from the treasury, was withdrawn by the accused. The crime has happened between August 2008 and February 2009.
