Tirupur: The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is in the process of setting up seven medical colleges and a dental college in the country.
The aim is to produce good quality doctors and thereby giving an impetus to healthcare, according to N. Parasuraman, Additional Commissioner, ESIC.
He told The Hindu that the medical colleges planned would come up in Coimbatore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kollam (in Kerala) and Bangalore, while the dental college would be set up in Mumbai, all subjected to the final approval by the Medical Council of India.
Enrolment
“Enrolment of the first batch of students for the medical college coming up in Coimbatore is tentatively fixed for 2010-11,” he added.
Besides, ESIC had already conceptualised establishment of an institute for postgraduate studies in medical sciences in Chennai.
To study the critical gaps in the delivery of services rendered by the Corporation, it was planned to carry out a client satisfaction survey with the help of a professional body.
“This will help us improve the quality for better,” he said.
The ESIC also had initiated a process to obtain ISO certification for all its regional and sub-regional offices.
