KOCHI: The Rotary-Federal Bank all-India FIDE-rated chess tournament, organised by the Rotary Club of Kodungallur, will be held at Kodungallur in Thrissur District from April 23 to 28. “It will be Kerala’s biggest prize-money FIDE-rated tournament,” said M.B. Muralidharan, the President of the Chess Association Kerala. “Even a few grandmasters are keen to play in the event.” The tournament carries a total prize fund of Rs. 2.25 lakhs, with the winner taking home Rs. 50,000. “We also have a chain of FIDE-rated tournaments in Kerala around that time, so we expect a huge response,” said Muralidharan. The PKV Memorial FIDE-rated tournament in Thodupuzha will be held prior to the Kodungallur event from April 17 to 21 while Thrissur (May 19-24) and Palakkad (May 25-30) will host the other events. Kerala will also host the Junior National boys and girls championships in September and the Team Nationals later this year, said Muralidharan. — Principal Correspondent
