Academics, NRIs seek BJP ticket

HYDERABAD: Academics, NRIs and a woman religious head are among those aspiring for BJP Lok Sabha tickets in the State, even as the party’s Central Election Committee has declared eight Lok Sabha and 43 Assembly nominees in the first list released on Friday.

According to party sources, Dean of Engineering, Osmania University, Ramesh Reddy was seeking ticket for Mahbubnagar seat while Principal of an engineering college wants to contest from Kakinada.

A NRI requested to be fielded from Nalgonda, while the Medak Lok Sabha seat was sought by a head of a mutt in Medak.

Meanwhile State BJP president Bandaru Dattatreya (Secunderabad) and national BJP secretary, N.Indrasena Reddy (Malkajgiri) are among the eight candidates cleared by the Central party leadership for Lok Sabha seats. The other nominees are Baddam Bal Reddy (Chevella), Kurasa Bojjaiah (Araku-ST), P. Sanyasi Raju (Vizianagaram), D.V.Subba Rao (Visakhapatnam), film actor K.Naresh (Hindupur), former MP, N.Venkata Swamy (Tirupati-SC).

State general secretary K.Laxman (Musheerabad), legislator G. Kishan Reddy (Amberpet), Greater Hyderabad president, Chintala Ramchandra Reddy (Khairatabad), State secretary Prem Singh Rathore (Goshamahal), State vice-president G.R.Karunakar (Malakpet), M.Bheem Rao (Serilingampally) and former MP, C.Janga Reddy (Bhupalpalle) are among the 43 candidates for Assembly seats.

The list also included four women, including State vice-president V. Jhansi Rani (Shadnagar). State BJP spokesperson N. Ramchander Rao said the second list would be finalised by March 16.
