Kuppam: CID probe stayed
Legal Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Justice G. Rohini of the High Court on Friday stayed further inquiry by the CID into the pilot micro irrigation and modern farm technology project in Kuppam in Chittoor district launched by the Telugu Desam government.
The Congress government had ordered the CID inquiry last month in accordance with the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice T. H. B. Chalapathi, retired judge of the High Court.
The Commission was appointed to enquire into alleged irregularities in the project and it had submitted its report in 2007.
The High Court issued the order on Friday on a writ petition filed by Ahobila Rao, who had promoted the project. Mr Rao said that he was not issued a notice and not given an opportunity to defend himself before the Commission.
Political grounds
The petitioner said that the officers concerned and persons like him were being persecuted on political grounds. The judge granted stay and directed the government to file counter affidavits.
