Innocent victim: The little girl Usha Roy is being treated at MKCG Medical College Hospital in Berhampur on Saturday. BERHAMPUR: Eight-year-old Usha Roy became prey to serious torture at the hands of her relatives who used her as a domestic help. She was rescued from her tormentors by some youngsters on Saturday from a house on Kanisi-Tulu road on the outskirts of the city. She was handed over to police at the Golanthara police station. She had to be shifted to the MKCG medical college hospital due to seriousness of injuries on her body. Usha had left her home in West Bengal due to the lure of proper education. “I left home to get proper education but my own relatives broke my right hand”, said Usha, while undergoing treatment at the MKCG medical college. According to the doctors treating her she had gone through severe physical and mental torture. Both her right leg and right arm were fractured. There were burn marks on her whole body. According to her she was marked with hot irons. The torturers of Usha were her own relatives. According to her she used to live with her poor parents at Chapadanga of Hughli district of West Bengal. Few months back a married relative named Kavita Roy came to her home and lured her parents to send Usha with her so that she could get proper schooling. The lure of education prompted the child to leave home and come to Orissa with Kavita. Kavita was married to a lorry driver and used to stay near Kanisi under Golanthara police station. Usha received great shock when she was used as a domestic servant by her relative. According to her both Kavita and her husband used to get sadistic pleasure in torturing her for small errors. Usha said she was being beaten with iron rods, kicked around And marked with hot iron pieces. “I am now finding it hard to sit or stand,” she said. She was never provided any medical help for her injuries. The villagers living nearby knew about it. When the shouts of Usha became unbearable on Saturday, the youths of the area rescued the girl. However, till evening, police had not arrested any person in relation to this case of inhuman torture of the child.
