JAGGAYYAPETA: Congress MLA and Government Whip S. Udayabhanu’s alleged violation of election code by conducting his election campaign from the premises of Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) quarters here came to light on Saturday, when TDP MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao took a team of mediapersons to the office. Mr. Udayabhanu was not present at the office then, but his followers picked up an argument with the mediapersons in a bid to stop them from entering the office. Mr. Rao said that the Congress MLA continued to violate the election code despite the matter being taken to the notice of the election authorities and the Tahsildar concerned. Mr. Udayabhanu’s campaign vehicle with posters of top Congress leaders and himself was seen parked on the premises. His followers refused to allow the mediapersons inside, saying their office had already been shifted to some other place. Mr. Rao condemned the attitude of the Congress MLA and demanded that Chief Electoral Officer I.V. Subba Rao take action against him for openly defying the election authorities. Mr. Rao said that the TDP would submit a memorandum to the CEO, seeking additional precautionary measures to ensure a free and fair election in Jaggayyapeta Assembly constituency by checking the “intimidatory tactics of the local MLA and his followers.”
