Betting racket busted, man arrested

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Central Crime Brach (CCB) officials have busted a cricket betting racket in the city with the arrest of a bookie.

The Special Enquiry Squad of CCB raided a house in Rajajinagar here on Saturday and arrested B.N. Lokesh alias Loki, who was residing in Gayatri Nagar in Rajajinagar.

The squad seized Rs. 22,770 in cash, a laptop, a computer; score sheets and other documents, five mobile phones, all together Rs. 1.55 lakh, from him.

Loki allegedly had collected money from people in various parts of the country along with the main bookie, Shibu of Kerala, who is yet to be traced.

The police have launched a search for 10 persons.

“Loki, a college dropout, had been running the betting racket since one year. We suspect that the gang has connections with bookies in Mumbai and other places,” said an officer connected with the investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused placed bets on the one-day cricket match between India and New Zealand played at Auckland on Saturday.
