JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Jan Morcha – established here to lend “people’s voice” to the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections – has decided to observe March 25 as a day of protest against unhindered creation of Special Economic Zones in the State without any thought for their impact on the poor people and on the economy. Jan Morcha secretary Prakash Chaturvedi said here on Monday that the activists working with the front would submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot demanding immediate closure of SEZs and introduction of a Bill ensuring the absolute right to education for the children. Mr. Gehlot had recently inaugurated the SEZ of a big industrial house on the outskirts of Jaipur. The Jan Morcha decided at a meeting here that it would boycott all candidates seeking votes in the name of religion, caste and communities and make a “direct intervention” in the elections to set down the principles of alternative politics. Mr. Chaturvedi, who earlier taught history at Rajasthan University here, said the Jan Morcha would shortly decide about fielding its own candidates for the Lok Sabha polls after holding district-level meetings. The “Jan Ummeedvaars” (people’s candidates) will expose the policies of the UPA government at the Centre on the issues directly affecting the poor, downtrodden and marginalised people. They will also generate awareness about “hollow claims” of parties in the Opposition camp while attempting to give a concrete and durable shape to alternative politics.
