S.R. Ashok Kumar

Chennai: The Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial Foundation award for the best debutant director goes to Paresh Mokashi for his film Harishchandrachi Factory in Marathi. It was selected from 19 nominations received from across the country in many languages including Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Marathi, Telugu and Kannada.

This is the 12th year in a row in which the best Indian directorial talent in feature films is recognised by the Chennai-based foundation.

Harishchandrachi Factory is a period film (1911) about the father of Indian cinema, Dada Saheb Phalke. The legend’s life has been portrayed poignantly and authentically.

The award, comprising Rs. 1,50,000 in cash and a memento, will be presented on August 12.

Mokashi has been associated with the theatre for the past two decades. Apart from show business, he is also involved in research on the Vedas, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
