Shortlisted names for LS, Assembly constituencies submitted to Sonia for final approval HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and AP Congress Committee president D. Srinivas returned to the State capital after a week-long painstaking candidate selection exercise in New Delhi . Before returning to Hyderabad, two senior Congress leaders called on AICC president Sonia Gandhi. The shortlisted names of candidates for the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies have been submitted to her for final approval. The party is said to have finalised the candidates for all the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies. Meanwhile, resentment is brewing among some party leaders over the selection of candidates for Lok Sabha constituencies. CriticismThey are openly criticising the leadership for denying them the ticket while others are cut up over the decision to shift them to other constituencies. Eight-time MLA Penmatsa Sambasiva Raju, who has been named for the Nellimarla Assembly seat, said he would contest the elections for only Parliament from Vizianagaram. He questioned the move to allot Nalgonda LS ticket to former TDP leader Gutha Sukhender Reddy within hours of his joining the party. Tribal Welfare Minister D.S. Redya Naik is reluctant to contest from Mahabubabad (ST) parliamentary constituency. Union Minister Panabaka Lakshmi is also said to be unwilling to move to neighbouring Bapatla while Union Minister Daggubati Purandeswari is hesitant to go to Visakhapatnam fearing non cooperation for Rajya Sabha member T. Subbarami Reddy, who was also an aspirant. Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy is facing the heat from party cadres in Chevella Lok Sabha constituency, who are opposed to his candidature. Congress workers of Rajendranagar and Chevella Assembly constituencies burnt his effigies on Thursday. Reports of similar protests were also received from Bellampally (Adilabad) and Khammam Assembly constituencies where party cadres have strongly opposed allotment of the ticket to non-locals.
