CHANDIGARH: Rohan Gajjar came up with an energetic finish in making light of an indifferent start as he pipped the wiry wild card Vijayant Malik 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(3) in the quarterfinals of the $15,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at the CLTA Complex here on Thursday. It was virtually a repeat of the first round against Sheeva Prabhu of the U.S. for Gajjar, but he was a lot more authoritative in the decisive tie-break this time. In the semifinals, Gajjar will face the sixth-seeded Yong-Kyu Lim of Korea who stopped giant-killer Barry King of Ireland in straight sets. Vishnu moves upVishnu Vardhan prevailed over the fifth-seeded Divij Sharan in another tough three-setter to set up a semifinal against the second-seeded Adam Kellner of Hungary. Kellner proved too good for former National champion Vijay Kannan. In the doubles semifinals, Mithun Murali and Vijay Sundar Prashanth shocked the top-seeded Purav Raja and Ashutosh Singh in two tie-breaks. The duo will face Divij and Vishnu in the final. The results: Singles (quarterfinals): Yong-Kyu Lim (Kor) bt Barry King (Irl) 6-4, 6-4; Rohan Gajjar bt Vijayant Malik 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(3); Vishnu Vardhan bt Divij Sharan 6-3, 3-6, 7-5; Adam Kellner (Hun) bt Vijay Kannan 6-2, 6-2. Doubles (semifinals): Mithun Murali & N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth bt Purav Raja & Ashutosh Singh 7-6(3), 7-6(5); Divij Sharan & Vishnu Vardhan bt I-Ta Chen & Hsin-Han Lee (Tpe) 7-5, 6-3.
