‘Problem villages under strict vigil’

MAHABUBNAGAR: The district police are taking all precautionary measures to ensure fair and peaceful elections in the district, according to Superintendent of Police T.V. Shashidhar Reddy. He said already strict vigil was being kept on problem villages.
In a press release, the SP said that 2,322 persons had been picked up from various villages in the district and were produced before the respective magistrates. They were released after personal surety was given.
There are 208 rowdy sheeters, 48 persons with criminal record, 278 persons who created problems in the last elections, 58 sympathizers of CPI Maoists and 1736 suspected persons were among the persons taken into custody.
The SP said that six cases had been registered for violation of the election code and 43 persons were arrested in this connection. Three cases were registered at Wanaparthy town and one case each at Shadnagar, Atmakur and Kodandapur police stations.
Mr. Reddy said 224 persons had been arrested following raids on belt shops and 213 cases registered.
