JAIPUR: A 35-member group of women from Bhutan who visited Kumher tehsil in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan on Thursday was impressed by the success of self-employment ventures launched by the Lupin Foundation as well as the services rendered by 171 Anganwadi centres in the region. The Planning Commission of Bhutan has reportedly adopted the Lupin model for rural development and women’s welfare. The women’s delegation visited Kumher to get first-hand information about works started for financial empowerment of women and the initiatives for health care of pregnant and lactating women and the girl child. The leaders of the Bhutanese women’s group – Karma Tsomo, Soman Weingmo and Kencho Doma – evinced a keen interest in the Swasthya Sakhi Yojana and the women and child development programme which have led to better health and an enhanced financial status for the local rural communities. Lupin Chid Development Officer Mahendra Awasthi said as many as 1,190 women’s self-help groups had been set up in Kumher tehsil during the past few years and provided with bank loans worth Rs.1.56 crore for starting self-employment works.
