Awareness on anthrax

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: Following reports of Anthrax in the neighbouring Visakhapatnam Agency a couple of days ago, the Medical and Health Department here began creating awareness through beating of drums and other modes of publicity among people in Pachipenta mandal and other villages bordering Araku Valley, said District Medical and Health Officer Ch. Mahesh.

At a press conference here on Friday, Dr. Mahesh said that Anthrax spreads through air and affects animals in a radius of 20 km. As a preventive measure, he appealed to tribals, who are in the habit of preserving beef of dead animals and consuming it at a later stage, to either bury or burn carcasses.
