NEW DELHI: The All India Tennis Association (AITA), in consultation with the International Tennis Federation (ITF), has launched a six-level coaches’ certification programme in the fifth National coaches’ workshop which began in Agra on Friday. The certification programme was on a three-tier basis earlier. About 120 coaches from all over the country are participating in the conference, and expert speakers include Chuck Kriese, the author of many tennis books from the U.S., Ted Murray, a cardio tennis expert, Dr. Vece Paes, Akhtar Ali, Jaidip Mukerjea, Nandan Bal and Enrico Piperno. Anil Khanna, Secretary-General, AITA, announced that coaches would be given financial assistance equivalent to the prize money of a Futures tournament, so as to help them conduct such events. Insurance programmeAll the tennis players in the country would be drafted into an insurance programme at nominal rates. The AITA would also launch a licensing programme for all the coaches in the country. The Dilip Bose lifetime achievement award was presented to the Fed Cup coach Enrico Piperno. A special award for excellent performance was given to Aditya Sachdeva — who had been assured of the Dilip Bose award at a recent felicitation function by the AITA Secretary-General — for his excellent work in helping Yuki Bhambri win the Australian Open junior singles title. — Special Correspondent
