Chief Minister addresses rallies at Sindagi and Muddebihal

Election Commission’s permission sought to release compensation to sugarcane growers

Congress asked to assess its contribution to State’s development

Campaign: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa addressing a public rally at Indi taluk in Bijapur district on Saturday.

Indi (Bijapur district): The State has power shortage, bad roads and water shortage owing to the negligence of the previous governments that ruled the State since independence, said Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

Addressing a public rally at Indi on Saturday, he said instead of blaming the present BJP Government for present condition of the State, the Congress should assess its contribution for the development of the State in all these years.

The BJP Government has taken steps to improve the condition of the farmers and the poor. In order to solve the power crisis, the Government has given approval to 6,900 MW thermal power plants in the State and so in the next four years, there would be no power crisis. The Government has also approved construction of 14,900 km of interior roads.

Commenting on the demand of sugarcane growers of Indi and Sindagi taluks to release compensation for uncrushed sugarcane for the year 2006-07, he said the Cabinet has already approved release of Rs. 41 crore compensation amount to sugarcane growers. “Since the model code of conduct is in force, the Government has sought permission of the Election Commission to release the amount. Once the commission gives approval, farmers would be given the compensation amount”, he said.

The Chief Minister also addressed the public gatherings at Sindagi and Muddebihal taluks of the district.
