Azam Khan keeps off meeting
Special Correspondent
LUCKNOW: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mohammad Azam Khan stayed away from the party’s one-day national executive meeting held here on Saturday.
The estranged leader met party president Mulayam Singh in New Delhi on Thursday.
Their meeting lasted about three hours. Mr. Khan is reported to have expressed his opposition to Mr. Mulayam Singh’s friendship with the former BJP leader, Kalyan Singh, and the influence exerted by Amar Singh over the party affairs.
He is also reported to have opposed Jayaprada’s candidature from Rampur.
Their meeting had fuelled speculations that Mr. Khan would be present at Sunday’s meeting.
Mr. Amar Singh told journalists that there was no change in the candidature of Ms. Jayaprada from Rampur and that she would win the election.
He refused to comment on the Azam Khan affair.
The national executive meeting was presided over by Mr. Mulayam Singh.
