LG to introduce new technology in LCD TVs

NEW DELHI: Aimed at consolidating its position in the Indian LCD TV market, consumer electronics major LG has decided to introduce latest IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology in all its LCD TVs that delivers better picture quality and faster response time compared to conventional VA (Vertical Alignment) technology.

Speaking to The Hindu, LG India’s Business Group Head (Home Entertainment) Amitabh Tiwari said the company would launch at least 30 new LCD TV models with IPS technology this year. LG sold around 1.6 lakh LCD TVs in 2008 and hope to take this to 5 lakh units this year. About the new IPS technology, Mr. Tiwari said it delivered quality viewing experience. “LCD panels with IPS technology deliver consistent colours in motion picture from all viewing angles and consume less power. The horizontal alignment of liquid crystal molecules increases the stability of the LCD set, which is not the same in the conventional VA technology. The company’s latest LCD TVs with IPS technology would be available from April.
