Cash crops rule the roost

MORE REMUNERATIVE: Paddy harvesting in progress at a field near Thrissur. The State’s food crops’ acreage has declined steadily paving way for more remunerative crops such as coconut and rubber. Out of a gross cropped area of 27.69 lakh hectares in 2007-08, food crops comprise only 11.57 per cent, according to the latest Economic Survey brought out by the State Planning Board.
