Bangalore: Mahatma Gandhi memorabilia is all set to reach the Indian shores in the near future. United Breweries Group chairman Vijay Mallya said Gandhiji’s prized possessions that were bought at an auction in New York for $1.8 million, were in his possession and he was awaiting the Union Government clearance to get them back to India. At a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Mallya said: “I am proud and equally humbled to be an Indian who bought the ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi’s memorabilia earlier in New York. I am awaiting clearance from the relevant Ministries here to get them back to India … I hope the Government will give me a waiver on the import duties.”
