Engineering colleges told to include latest changes

Manipal: Pro-Vice Chancellor of Manipal University S.S. Pabla said on Saturday that engineering colleges in the country were struggling to provide education that dealt with the latest technological advancements.

He was presiding over the inaugural function of a two-day workshop on “Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) - Biomedical Applications”, organised by the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) here.

Dr. Pabla said about five lakh students were graduating from 1,500 engineering colleges in the country, annually. Of them, only 30 per cent were employable and the rest were either ill-equipped or lacked proper training. They also lacked knowledge of the latest developments in their fields,” he added. Registrar of Manipal University G.K. Prabhu, and convener S. Niranjana were present.
