Awareness on cancer prevention vital: Thakur

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Saturday stressed the need for prevention and early detection of cancer.

Speaking after inaugurating the Karnataka Cancer Society’s “Daily free oral cancer screening unit” and Vasavi Pharmacy Block, the Governor said it was important to create awareness about cancer prevention among the downtrodden and the urban poor, especially among those living in the slums.

Pointing out that cancer treatment had become a challenging task for doctors, scientists and researchers, the Governor said: “Most cancers could be prevented by making lifestyle changes. Awareness should be created among the general public on prevention of cancer rather than cure.” He lauded the efforts of the Karnataka Cancer Society in preventing cancer and creating awareness about early detection. “The society has been educating the people about the ill-effects of cancer and making them understand the impact of the disease, which is curable if detected early,” he added.

President of Vasavi Clubs International A.V.S.N. Gupta and president of the Karnataka Cancer Society C.K.A.N. Sastry were present.
