‘Mysterious boat’ keeps police on their toes

Special Correspondent

CUDDALORE: Police personnel and the Coast Guard have been put on high alert following information that a boat of mysterious origin carrying certain infiltrators might be heading towards the Cuddalore coast. Superintendent of Police Pradip Kumar has formed special police parties to maintain vigil in all the coastal villages. Soon after the receipt of the information on Friday evening, a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Chidambaram) Narendra Nair scanned areas at Pichavaram, Mudasal Odia.

Mr. Pradip Kumar told The Hindu that the as the police could not trace any movement of boats, the Coast Guard was alerted. It immediately deployed Dornier aircraft and during sorties it found a local trawler, jointly owned by Tamilselvan and Ravi of M.G.R.Thittu, drifting in the high seas. Other than this no other vessel could be sighted.
