Governor ‘raises doubt’ over trust vote

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Orissa Governor M.C. Bhandare has sent a report to President Pratibha Patil on the March 11 vote of no-confidence faced by the Naveen Patnaik government after the Bharatiya Janata Party had walked out of the alliance with the ruling Biju Janata Dal.

The Governor’s report was sent earlier this week. The report was forwarded by the Rashtrapati Bhavan to the government for consideration.

Well-placed sources said the Governor, in his report on the situation in the State and the no-confidence vote, expressed doubt over the voice vote that went in favour of the Patnaik government. According to the report, sources said the voice vote could not be relied upon and a headcount or voting by legislators could have been the correct way of determining if the government still enjoyed a majority .
