Consider demands of SIPMA: CPI (M)
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Central government should examine the demands of South Indian Paper Mills Association (SIPMA) for waiver of interest and deferment of bank loan to help the paper industry overcome its difficulties, T.K. Rangarajan, CPI (M) leader, has said.
In a letter to Commerce Minister Kamal Nath, he said the SIPMA mainly consisted of about 130 small and medium size producers who were finding it difficult to compete with large producers without government support. He said the mills were heavily dependent on imported waste paper for production.
The deteriorating rupee value against the dollar was making imports costly.
In the circumstances, he said the demands were justified.
