Advocate associations file caveats

J. Venkatesan

New Delhi: The Madras High Court Advocates Association and the Tamil Nadu Advocates Association on Monday filed caveats in the Supreme Court in the special leave petition filed by two Tamil Nadu IPS officers against the Madras High Court’s order directing their suspension in connection with the lathicharge on lawyers on February 19. In the SLP filed by A.K. Viswanathan, Additional Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Chennai, and M. Ramasubramani, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Coimbatore Range (he was the Joint Commissioner of police (North), Chennai, on the day of the incident), they had sought quashing of the March 18 order and an interim stay of its operation. The SLP had cited 15 respondents including these two associations.
