‘Mahasamprokshanam’ performed

Staff Reporter

PUDUKOTTAI: A large number of devotees thronged Sri Prasanna Regunathaperumal Temple at Prasanna Regunathapuram near Kadaiyakudi and witnessed the ‘mahasamprokshanam’ on Monday.

The presiding deity, popularly known as Lord Ramar, is believed to bless the childless couples.

It was constructed in 1828 by Ragunatha Thondaiman of the erstwhile Pudukottai Samsthanam who prayed to be blessed with a child.

According to the temple authorities, the Samasthanam ruler was blessed with a child a year after the temple was constructed.

‘Vimanam’ renovated

The ‘Balalayam’ for the ‘mahasamprokshanam’ was performed a few years ago. The ‘vimanam’ atop the sanctum sanctorum was also renovated.

Completion

Amidst religious fervour, the ‘gadams’ containing the holy water were taken from the ‘yagasalai’ and at about 10.15 a.m. the holy waters were sprinkled on the ‘vimanam’ and other shrines marking the completion of the ‘mahasamprokshanam.’

The Mayor of Tiruchi, Sarubala R. Tondaiman, His Highness Sri Brahadambaldas Raja Rajagopala Thondaiman, MLA R. Nedunchezhian and Executive Officer P. Kadarkarai were among those who were present.

The ‘brahmothsavam’ celebrations will commence on Thursday.
