Platform ticket counter

Getting a platform ticket in Tiruchi junction has become a cumbersome task because of non-functioning of vending machines. The problem gets aggravated during peak hours and festival season as they have to stand in long queues with other travellers. I request the authorities concerned to operate an exclusive counter for issuing platform tickets till the machines are repaired.

Extend Kollam passenger train

The Railways should extend the Madurai–Kollam passenger to Tiruchi. This will be beneficial for the people of Central districts to reach various parts of Kerala.

Waste collection baskets

Corporation conservancy workers clear the waste on bazaar roads under the scorching sun every day. The Corporation should ask shopkeepers to provide bins to dispose the waste. If necessary the Corporation itself could provide suitable baskets to all the houses in the city. Street vendors of vegetables and fruits in cars should also be given baskets to avoid waste being thrown on roads.

Tractors damaging rural roads

A lot is being said about development of rural infrastructure including rural roads.

But most of the rural roads are ruined almost immediately on laying/mending by running tractors with their iron gauge wheel.

Unless the authorities take stringent action to stop this evil practice, no amount of expenditure will be enough to maintain rural roads in good shape for long.

Property tax

The Corporation has increased the property tax for new assesses for residential buildings with effect from April 1, 2008, which works out to a whopping increase of 100 per cent. A sudden rise of 100 per cent is inexplicable. I request the Corporation to reduce the increase and extend relief for all property tax assessees.

Relocate liquor shop

A liquor shop is at the entrance of Anbu Nagar, Crawford, causes anxiety to the residents. There is a girls higher secondary school nearby and students are passing through the shop. The residents welfare association has represented this to the Collector many times to shift the shop to some other area.

Announcement board not used

Recently I was at Tiruchi Airport to receive a VIP who was arriving by the Sharjah–Chennai Indian Airlines flight. The flight was delayed by 45 minutes. There is a digital announcement board at the exit gate but there is no announcement regarding the late arrival of the flight.

’Sanctuary’ destroyed

The branches of all trees in Town Hall Park near to plantain merchants’ chowltry were cut down. The said park was a home for thousands of birds. It is more or less a small sanctuary. But unfortunately all the branches of trees were cut down, the birds are homeless, they are unable to represent before the authorities. In Tiruchi town more than hundred years old big trees were cut down for road expansion.

Buses not entering OFT bus stand

The city buses route No.89, and No. 26 bound for Police Colony via Thiruverumbur, OFT, Chatram never enter OFT bus stand in both the directions. What for then is the bus stand constructed? What is the difficulty in entering the bus stand? TNSTC authorities must make a note of this attitude of drivers and conductors of route No. 89 and No. 26 and direct them to enter OFT bus stand.

Janakimaindhan S.Raj,

OFT.

Flights to Bangalore

Since the Tiruchi airport has been expanded, it will be right to reintroduce the Kingfisher service or any other airlines to operate a flight to Bangalore. Since there is only one train to Bangalore from Tiruchi, this flight will be of use for the people of surrounding districts as well.

Dr. D. Saminathan,

Karumandapam.

Road broadening work

The Corporation authorities have launched the broadening of the road at Sannadhi Street at Tiruvanaikaval. This is a welcome measure. But they have chosen a wrong time as Mahasivarathri festival is being conducted at the temple now.

At this juncture, the Sannadhi Street with the side roads dug for relaying, poses traffic problems. Further, parts of Vibhuthiprakaram, used on the occasion for Pradakshinam by devotees are also strewn with stones for road laying. The authorities can select some other date for carrying out the work.

K.V. Balakrishnan,

T. V. Koil.
