Top police officer goes to school

New DGP Ajit Kumar Mohanty has only a 16-month tenure remaining of his service. So, one topic of interest could be about the post-retirement career choices of a police officer like him. According to a not-so-wild guess, after a life spent looking after law-and-order, the ex-chief of Octopus might devote his second innings to the practice of law.

A tiny bird says that he has enrolled himself as a student of Mahatma Gandhi Law College near Kothapet along with his colleague J.V. Ramudu. Both are in the second semester of the three-year course and have obtained departmental permission for the same. Though they do not attend the classes along with other students, they make it a point to visit the college now and then in civil attire. It has to be seen if the DGP will be able to take time off his busy schedule now to pursue his studies.

General elections in the State are going to be held in two phases – the first phase on April 16 when areas of Telangana and north coastal districts will go to the polls. The next phase is on April 23 for Rayalaseema and south coastal districts. Therefore, asked a wag, to a senior election official recently at a press meet with regard to migrant voters: “Sir is it possible that a person with separate electoral photo identity cards and name figuring in two separa te lists, can vote here in the first phase and go to the places where the second phase voting is on as there is a considerable gap?” The official immediately sensed the tough one and accepted the lacunae. “It is possible because there is no centralised computer link-up to remove duplicity of voters in different districts. But, it is a crime and a person doing so can be prosecuted,” he hastened to add.

Its cola battle again. But this time, the war is being fought on home ground. While a few months ago, mega star-turned-politician Chiranjeevi was seen endorsing Thums Up, his son Ram Charan Tej has been roped in by Pepsi as its brand ambassador recently.

During a press conference of the new Pepsi launch, Ram Charan was asked which drink they had at home. The actor, replied, ‘At home, we always have Pepsi.’ Talk about being politically right!

Moreover, if one looks back at the old cola advertisements a few years ago, Pawan Kalyan was endorsing Pepsi. The situation is similar to the famous lines, “The old order changeth yielding place to the new.”

Mum is the word at Majlis camp. Who are the likely contestants nobody knows. The leaders always play the cards close to their hearts. So much so that the candidates themselves don’t know till the eleventh hour. Party insiders tell how the aspirants come prepared with nomination papers and deposit money in hand. They wait for the final nod of the party president and rush to file their papers. Will it be any different this time?
