Paintings of the Zodiac

Depicting Rashis’ cultural significance



THE ZODIAC: The Rashi Mandala and other paintings by H.N. Suresh will go on display in Bangalore on Friday.

BANGALORE: On the occasion of the International Year of Astronomy 2009, the Bangalore based Aley, a visual art hut, is set to host a rare exhibition of paintings depicting the cultural and aesthetic significance of Rashi Mandala (Zodiacal signs) by artist H.N. Suresh at Chitrakala Parishat from March 27 to March 31 in the city.

Many from the States’ social, cultural and literary circles such as scholar G. Venkatasubbaiah, Gandhian H.S. Doreswamy, writer U.R. Ananthamurthy, artist Yusuf Arakal, retired judge M. Rama Jois, Vedic scholar Mathoor Krishnamurti, musician R.K. Srikantan, historian Suryanath Kamath and Director-General and Inspector-General of Police Ajai Kumar Singh would participate in the event.

The paintings have drawn the attention of connoisseurs’ attention at Delhi, Chandigarh and Kolkata.

The exhibition will be open to the public from March 31 between 10.30 a.m. and 7.30 p.m.
