Indefinite strike by VSP workers

Contract workers of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant launched an indefinite strike on Tuesday to press for a hike of Rs.1,000 a month.

“Maintenance and expansion work of the plant was hit hard as 22,000 contract workers abstained from work,” CITU district president A. Ajay Sarma and general secretary Ramesh said.

The workers served the strike notice on March 2 after the management failed to enforce its promise to effect a hike in wages.
