Bangalore: People in south Bangalore were surprised by a sizeable drenching they got when it rained on Tuesday.

A light but steady drizzle and some strong winds brought temperatures down in the city by a substantial four degrees Celsius by way of compensation.

An upper air cyclonic circulation off the Karnataka coast over the Arabian Sea, coupled with strong westerly winds gave rise to a thunderstorm, said A. Muthuchami, Director of the Meteorological Centre here.

From a maximum of 32.5 degrees Celsius on Monday, the mercury dropped to 28.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Minimum temperatures, however, did not change as significantly. All this with a rather modest recording of rainfall: while the city recorded just 0.1 mm of rainfall, the old airport recorded 0.4 mm, and Yelahanka a significantly higher 11.4 mm.

The city can expect thundershowers to continue in the evenings for the next couple of days, Mr. Muthuchami added.

No complaints

With the city receiving little rainfall, the control rooms of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike did not register any complaints. Officials at BBMP West and Rajarajeshwarinagar control rooms said that areas coming under their jurisdiction did not receive any rainfall.

Ajay Krishnan, a student, however said that he was stuck en route to his house from Wilson Garden for around 30 minutes due to the sudden showers. “It started pouring heavily. I was forced to stop and take shelter at a bakery,” he said.
