VISAKHAPATNAM: The Centre for Cancer Screening and Prevention (CCSP) conducted an awareness programme to mark the National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month at Pithapuram Colony here on Wednesday. CCSP Medical Officer K. Santha Kumari spoke about the general causes of cancer, the seven danger signals, screening tests and early detection. Professor in Surgery of the KGH S.V. Kumar explained about the colorectal cancer that might occur after 50 years of age, both in men and women. Change of bowel habits, indigestion and alternate constipation and diarrhoea are the warning signs of colorectal cancer. Unhealthy dietary system, environmental pollution, smoking and alcohol may cause colorectal cancer and it could be hereditary too. Dr. Kumar explained the risk factors, early detection, prevention and treatment. The awareness programme will continue till the end of the month.
