282 polling booths identified as sensitive in Tuticorin

Tuticorin: The standing committee meeting for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections was held here on Wednesday to apprise the party leaders about the enforcement of model code of conduct and guidelines to be followed during the campaign.

Presiding over the meeting, Collector G. Prakash, held discussions with representatives of all recognised political party regarding the use of public and private buildings for painting symbols, erection of banners, cut-outs, flex boards and hoardings. He said that “graffiti and banners can be made only with owners’ consent of the private buildings in rural areas whereas in urban areas it will not be allowed.”

Ramps will be set up immediately at polling booths to facilitate the disabled voters to exercise their franchise.

Deepak M. Damor, SP, said police personnel would be deployed to monitor the situation ahead of electioneering for polls to prevent any unlawful activities. Permission to hold public and street corner meetings, procession, addressing the election rally and for using sound system, would be given on a first–cum- first-serve basis and for senior leaders’ campaign permission from the SP’s Office would be mandatory. A total of 282 polling stations were identified as sensitive booths.

If it was finalized, Central paramilitary force would be deployed in these booths in addition to police picketing, micro observers and full voting exercise would be videographed.
