Firm stand: Farmers taking out a march on Wednesday from the Bangalore city railway station to the Raj Bhavan to register their protest against land acquisition. BANGALORE: Hundreds of farmers from Bellary and Bangalore, under the banner of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha, took out a march opposing acquisition of fertile farm land for airports, here on Wednesday. Farmers from Bellary, under the banner Chaganoor Sirivara Vimananildana Bhooswadina Horata Samiti, were on a “padayatra” to Bangalore opposing acquisition of hundreds of acres of land for the new Bellary airport. They were joined by farmers from in and around Bangalore who had lost their lands for the Bengaluru International Airport. While Bellary farmers have demanded a complete halt to the acquisition proceedings, the Bangalore farmers have been demanding market rate for the lands acquired already and government job for one person from each displaced family. They later submitted a memorandum to the Governor.
