Allot symbol to LSP, EC told
Legal Correspondent
HYDERABAD: A two-member division bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday directed the Election Commission of India (EC) to take steps to allot common symbol to the recognised political parties at State-level in Andhra Pradesh for the ensuing elections in tune with the observations made by the court. These orders were passed on a writ petition filed by the Lok Satta Party (LSP).
This decision may also benefit the Praja Rajyam which is one of the main contenders for power in the State.
LSP filed a writ petition challenging the orders passed by the EC on January 15, rejecting its application saying that common symbol could not be allotted as the rules did not provide for it.
