dated March 26, 1959: National Water Supply

At present there are 275 urban and 206 rural schemes in progress under the National Water Supply and Sanitation Programme of the Union Ministry of Health, according to the summary of its activities for 1958-59 submitted to Parliament. A budget provision of Rs. 850 lakhs for urban, including Rs. 50 lakhs for corporation, and Rs. 200 lakhs for rural water supply schemes has been made during the current financial year. In the Second Five-Year Plan, Rs. 40 crores, including Rs. 10 crores for corporations, have been set apart in the Central Plan for distribution as loans to the States. Provision of about Rs. 23 crores and Rs. 28 crores has also been made in the State Plans for urban and rural water supply schemes.
