Men who matter: A. K. Mohanty, DGP, with Chief Electoral Officer I. V. Subba Rao, on Wednesday. - HYDERABAD: Chief Electoral officer I. V. Subba Rao has said the Election Commission was likely to take a decision anytime now on the High Court’s directive to allot common symbol to Lok Satta party and by other registered parties. He told reporters here on Wednesday night that if the EC took a decision to implement the directive instead of contesting it, he would allot one out of the listed 59 free symbols for use by candidates of the “registered” party of Lok Satta as their uniform symbol. He said he was not sure if the EC would resolve to make the decision binding in all the States and all the registered parties, or confine it to Lok Satta only. If it decided to allow the benefit to all registered parties, he would call representatives of all the existing 37 registered parties in the State, including Praja Rajyam Party, for a meeting to know which party preferred which symbol out of the free symbols, work out modalities, and make the allotment. Meanwhile, the three-day time-limit specified for a registered party to seek allotment of symbol of another party which was a State recognised party in an other State, expired on Wednesday. With this, the Praja Rajyam Party lost an opportunity to get the symbol of a recognised party of another State.
