Punjab Police posts win

Avinash Nair

SULLIA: Punjab Police overcame a rain delay and a rusty first set to put it across Jindal Steel Works (Bellary) 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 on the second day of the National volleyball league championship (second leg) at the Gandhinagar stadium here on Wednesday.

Jindal which was outplayed on Tuesday by Southern Railway seemed to make best use of the rain respite. The second best team from Karnataka exploited the sluggishness in the Punjab defence. On Tuesday night, Haryana State Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIDC) overcame a fighting Kerala State Electricity Board.

The results:

Men: Group A: Southern Railway (Chennai) bt JSW (Bellary) 25-16, 25-20, 25-23. Group B: HSIDC (Haryana) bt KSEB (T’puram) 25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 17-15.

Women: Western Railway (Mumbai) bt S.E. Railway (Kolkata) 25-8, 25-13, 25-15.
