Notice issued to State

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday ordered issue of notices to the State and other respondents on a petition by Bharat Universal Education Society of Hassan district which had challenged the refusal of the authorities to permit it to start English-medium pre-primary and lower primary school. The society said it had planned the English-medium schools at Halli Mysore in Holenarsipur taluk of Mysore district. It said the Block Education Officer of Holenarsipur had, on January 13, 2009, issued an endorsement stating that only Kannada-medium schools would be permitted. It had urged the court to direct the authorities to allow it to start English-medium schools. Justice Mohan Shantangouder ordered issue of notices and adjourned petition. — Staff Reporter
