Udupi: Home Minister V.S. Acharya on Friday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party had urged the Election Commission to apply all those restrictions that were applied during the elections to the Assembly in 2008. Speaking to presspersons here, Dr. Acharya said that the party had told Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami that more restrictions should not be imposed merely on the grounds that the BJP was in power in the State. “The BJP has been religiously following the model code of conduct. All charges that the party had violated the code are baseless,” he said.
