Balleret to meet Kellner

Principal Correspondent

KOLKATA: Top seeded Benjamin Balleret of Monaco and second seeded Adam Kellner of Hungary won lopsided semifinals to storm into the final of the Oil India ITF men’s futures here on Friday.

Balleret ended the challenge of fourth seeded Patrick Taubert of Germany with an easy 6-1, 6-2, while Kellner saw off third seeded Hsin-Han Lee of Chinese Taipei with a 6-1, 6-1 scoreline.

Balleret, looking to pick up full points to bolster his international ranking, started off in the right track by breaking Taubert in the very first game.

Fraught with mistakes

The German faltered with his service, which were riddled with double faults, and also committed many unforced errors. Taking full advantage, Balleret broke a tentative Taubert again in the fifth and seventh games to wrap up the Set.

Balleret played consistently well in the second set and broke Taubert in the second and eighth games to wrap up the match in just under an hour.

Kellner was even swifter in getting his win, which he completed in just 46 minutes. Third seeded Lee could hardly adjust to the pace of the clay court and lapsed into repeated errors, making the task easier for Kellner.

Quick demolition

Kellner, who ran up a 4-0 lead in the first set by breaking Lee twice and wrapped it up for the loss of just a game, continued his dominance to repeat the scoreline in the second.

The doubles title was claimed by the Chinese Taipei pair of I-Ta Chen & Hsin-Han Lee, which beat the combination of Balleret and India’s Rohan Gajjar in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

The results:

Singles: Semifinals: Benjamin Balleret (Mon) bt Patrick Taubert (Ger) 6-1, 6-2; Adam Kellner (Hun) bt Hsin-Han Lee 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles: Final: I-Ta Chen & Hsin-Han Lee (Tpe) bt Benjamin Balleret (Ger) & Rohan Gajjar (Ind) 6-4, 6-4.
