SNR Sons College in semifinals

Coimbatore: A fine all-round performance by Sundaramoorthy (56 & three for 14) enabled host SNR Sons College score a convincing 153-run win over Karpagam College of Arts and Science and enter the semifinals of the SNR Ever Rolling Trophy inter-collegiate cricket tournament at the SNR Sons grounds here on Friday.

The scores: Quarterfinals: SNR Sons 216 for six in 25 overs (Arun Kumar 46, Sundaramoorthy 56, Suresh Babu 49 not out) bt Karpagam CAS 63 in 15 overs (Kannan four for 16, Sundaramoorthy three for 14).

Pre-quarterfinals: Nehru CAS 118 for nine in 25 overs (Sajith Menon 37, Prakash four for 21) lost to GAC 120 for two in 17.3 overs (Suresh Kumar 46).

PSG strikes it rich

Host PSG College of Pharmacy clinched a triple title in the regional level inter-pharmacy sports and games meet at the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences Research premises on Thursday.

The host’s men fashioned a six-wicket win over Karpagam College of Pharmacy for the cricket title. Its women brought further cheer winning the badminton and carrom titles.

The results (final): Men: Basketball: JSS 32 bt KMCH 18. Badminton: Erode CoP (Jakka Naveen Kumar, Saifudeen) bt PSG (C.M. Ashif, Raees, Jayesh) 2-0. Cricket: Karpagam 125 in 20 overs (Yemen 24, Chinthan 23, Manikavasagam four for 14, Sonagra Punit two for 24) lost to PSG 126 for four in 17.5 overs (Sonagra Punit 57 not out). Football: KMCH bt Cheraan 5-3 (via tiebreaker).

Women: Badminton: PSG (M. Jyothirmai, Navya Saroja, Devi Devendran) bt JSS (Priyadarshini, Sharanya, Sindhura) 2-0. Carrom: PSG (Ramya Reddy, Navya Saroja) bt Sri Ramakrishna IPS (Sai Lakshmi, Jasmine Fathima) 2-0. Chess: 1. Sri Ramakrishna IPS; 2. Erode CoP.

Varsity cricket

Karunya University will conduct its first State level Karunya Acer-Pentagon inter-varsity cricket tournament at the Karunya Sports Complex from April 2 to 5.

Bharathiar, TNAU, Vinayaga, Karpagam and host Karunya will fight it out for the top slot in the four-day tournament.

Sathish is fastest

At Namakkal, G. Sathish Kumar of Adhiyamaan College of Engineering (Dharmapuri) and A. Vijila of Selvam College of Technology (Namakkal) clinched the 100m gold for men and women respectively in the Anna University zonal level athletic meet at the Selvam College of Technology premises on Friday.

The results: Men: 100m: 1. G. Sathish Kumar (Adhiyamaan); 2. M. Chandrasekaran (Dr. Mahalingam); 3. R. Srinivasan (Adhiyamaan). High jump: 1. P. Suresh Kumar (Adhiyamaan); 2. M. Easy for Students Seniors

At Salem, Students Seniors Cricket Club defeated AVR Cricket Club by four wickets in the Canara Bank-SDCA first division cricket league at the Steels grounds recently.

The scores:

First division: AVR CC 177 in 43 overs (Gopi 40, S. Chandramouli four for 23) lost to Students Seniors CC 178 for six in 36 overs (G. Anandh 41 not out).

Second division: Kannan Memorial CC 225 in 40 overs (S. Balamurugan 42, R. Balamurugan 56, Gokul four for 38) lost to Free Birds CC 229 for six in 39.1 overs (Gopi 55).
